Dr Muncha - day 5 Geek Week

My favourite doctor is definitely Dr Who. I've loved Dr Who ever since I used to watch it in black and white while hiding behind the couch - it was scary but it was good. Being scared meant that I cared what happened to the characters, not that the show was too violent.

Infact, Dr Who was rarely violent. The Doctor taught us to use our minds to figure things out. He prefered a bag of jelly babies to a gun, and it usually seemed to work. Dr Who taught me to be curious - he always seemed to be poking his nose into everybodies business but in a delightfully guiless way. Curiousity, enthusiasm and fun was the epitomy of what I found in the Doctor.

When I was creating the Travel Buddies for the State Library of Queensland, this was the first concept set I considered essential to life-long learning. Muncha, shown above, embodies the qualities of confidence, energy, enthusiasm, curiousity and funloving. He has more in common with Dr Who than may first appear.

Dr Who is way cool. Your image is of my favourite Doctor although my two most favourite episodes in the whole wide world are the one with the giant maggots and the one with the spiders "ohm".

I love Dr. Who!!!! I too hid behind the couch and to this day I break out in goosebumps when Daleks speak... brrrrr

Saturday after wide world of sports was sacred! Woe betide should we miss an episode! I was glad the ressurected the series!

My mother, at my brother's begging made him a tom baker scarf which he wore to death...

It wasn't until Douglas Adams explained the galaxy's strange customs that he gave up the scarf in favour for a dressing gown!

as the first of the new doc's used to say....
FANTASTIC!

Lani, those are some of my scarey favs too!! Esp those maggots!!

Sue, thanks so much for the visit, please come back any time:D Michele's games are fun!

Merly, I loved Tom Baker's scarf too. I heard that when the art department was given the task of making a scarf they gave a gaint bag of wool to a knitter and said make us a scarf, she used the whole bag!! thus=longgg scarf!

Daleks, I think are still one of the most frightening bad guys of sci-fi.

ps I hope you still keep a towel handy
for any hitch-hiking emergencies;)

I presume your favourite Doctor was Tom Baker. Mine was Jon Pertwee. Jo Grant & Sarah Jane Smith were my favourite assistant, although Rose Tyler has been really good.

Yes Captain, I loved Tom Baker, but I also couldn't go pass the very suave John Pertwee. He was an elegant man, quite a charming Doctor. As to assistants, I liked Sarah Jane and Ace, and I like Rose too.

The best artistic works are the ones that don't simply depict something - but they prompt us to imagine it in our minds.

Nicely put.

Carmi, thanks:)imagination is where its at!

John P and Tom B were my 2 fav docs. I cried when John P's doc made that awful transition and even more so when Tom Baker did the same thing.

of course as a small child I didn't understand thatthis was just a longevity story device....

*sigh*

The regeneration from John P to Tom B was unusual because of the Tibetan Monk appeared to tell them what was going on, and he himself was a regeneration of the Doctor's old teacher. The regeneration time is always a mixture of exciting and sad. One gets so attached to a favourite character.
